A handmade object brings something into a home that a moulded one cannot: small differences. With olive wood, those differences are easy to see, in the grain, the colour and the outline of each piece. This article looks at what handmade means for Nawara Craft pieces and where they fit best in everyday life.
What handmade means here
Every piece is designed in Switzerland and carved or turned by hand in Tunisia. Spoons, spatulas and boards are carved; bowls and other round pieces are turned. The wood comes from old olive trees that were going to become charcoal, so no tree is felled for the products.
Reading the grain
Olive wood has a dense, tight grain with strong contrasts, and its markings vary from one piece to the next. That is why every board is unique in its grain and shape, and why two spoons of the same model never look identical. The piece you receive will match the model and size you chose, but its pattern will be its own.
Where olive wood fits at home
On the counter
The olive wood utensil holder keeps spoons and spatulas within reach next to the stove, and gives the counter a warmer look than a metal or plastic pot.
On the table
Boards move between kitchen and table more than any other piece: cutting in one place, serving in the other. Browse the cutting, chopping and serving boards to compare shapes, from organic outlines to rectangular boards with handles.
For small daily rituals
An olive wood honey jar with lid and dipper at breakfast, a bottle stopper on an opened bottle, a tea light holder in the evening: small pieces are an easy way to bring olive wood into a home without changing anything else.
Living with natural wood
Handmade pieces ask for a little attention in return. Wash them by hand with warm water, dry them right away and oil them occasionally with a food-safe oil. Olive wood is not dishwasher safe and should not be left soaking. With that simple routine, it stays durable and pleasant to use for years.
Giving handmade pieces
Because no two pieces are alike, olive wood already makes a personal gift. Optional laser engraving, free and done in Switzerland, adds up to 35 characters of text; on suitable larger pieces such as boards, a logo or photo is also possible. The gift sets group several pieces around one occasion, and orders ship in under 3 working days, engraving included.
Frequently asked questions
Will my piece look like the one in the photo?
It will be the same model and size, but the grain and exact shape will differ slightly, because each piece is made by hand.
Can olive wood go in the dishwasher?
No. Wash by hand, dry right away and oil occasionally.
