Sustainable gift: a natural piece made to last for years
A sustainable gift is first of all a gift that lasts and replaces a throwaway object. Nawara makes utensils, boards and tableware in olive wood, carved by hand and finished with food-grade oil. Here is exactly where the wood comes from and how the pieces are made.
Where the wood comes from
We use wood from pruned branches and from olive trees at the end of their productive life. No tree is felled to make our pieces.
How the pieces are made
- Each piece is designed in Switzerland, then carved and sanded by hand by artisans in Tunisia, who have worked this wood for generations.
- The finish is food-grade sunflower oil only: no varnish, no lacquer.
- Olive wood is one of the densest fruitwoods. It resists scratches and does not hold odours.
Why it is a gift that lasts
Looked after properly, an olive wood piece serves for years. Care is simple: wash by hand, dry straight away, oil from time to time. It does not go in the dishwasher.
